Wow! What a surprise! I peeked out the kitchen window to see if the squirrels were back at the birdfeeder (they just discovered it yesterday), and lo and behold, there was a male robin perched in the crabapple tree. I was so shocked, because we've had a pretty cold winter thus far--mostly teens and single digits the last few weeks, and a fair amount of snow overall. It was about 9 A.M. and 17-18°F when I saw the robin. He was plucking away at the shriveled fruit still hanging on the tree.
