We spotted the female on 1/22/09; she came to our feeder (black oil sunflower seed). The distinctive white line above her eye helped us identify her. Today, 1/31/09, we think my husband spotted a male; it was black with a black beak, but he thought that the stripe on its wing was white. We can't find any good photos of male red-wings in winter.
