Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 02/02/2009

Number: 1

Red-winged Blackbirds winter in my area, so I see them all winter. What was noteworthy today is that males in this area are already doing their territorial displays, flying upwards on territory, and fluttering downwards displaying their red epaulets while singing. The males are not in full breeding plumage yet, as they still have only their winter red epaulet feathers, and no yellow epaulet feathers.
