Tulips EMERGED

Date: 02/05/2009

Number: 1

Seven of the bulbs have emerged! Row 11/12 we found 4 bulbs, row 11/20 we found 2 and in the row we planted 3 weeks after the first row (12/4), we were surprised to find the tallest bulb of them all! We found the shortest (1cm) in the 2nd planting and the tallest (3.5 cm) in the 3rd planting. Why do you think that the one we planted last is the tallest? We wonder too! Today’s temperature is 27 degrees F.
In our unofficial gardens we found that the tulip planted on our nature trail has emerged (1cm). We planted bulbs in 2 clay pots and they are frozen to the ground, but have not emerged. We have a metal pot of tulips (not red emperor) that we planted 2 weeks ago and 4 of the 6 have emerged. The soil is frozen in the metal pot.
