A female deposited her last eggs about two weeks ago. Existing are a few caterpillars @ 4-5 instar and an unknown number of 1st instars-I've only seen one crawler so far-but in the WINTER!? Found a week ago is one viable chrysalis. So, I guess, taken together, the butterfly has barely hung on to overwinter. Fingers crossed.
The insect is much more durable than I believed and withstood several freezing nights and radical swings in humidity over a very short time span. Thankfully, Spring is already expressing here.
