Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 02/06/2009

Number: 1

Our school has a butterfly garden, and we continue to have monarch caterpillars on our milkweed. Our milkweed has not frozen. We observed that the caterpillars are feeding at the top of the milkweed stalks. We think they are doing this to catch the morning sun. They are also still making chrysalises on a south facing brick wall. Are these monarchs spending the winter in New Orleans area or just the last migration wave to Mexico?
