I have had monarch butterflies in my yard all winter. I have seen eggs all winter. At this point, I am chopping down to the ground all of last year's milkweed due to a something or other that kills the larva when they start feeding on the leaves. The plants that are not affected have been totally stripped of leaves and I have chrysalises all the way down from instar 5's to eggs that I have brought into my classroom for the students to observe.
