All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 02/20/2009

Number: 1

Sunrise was at 7:13am and sunset is at 6:22pm, which gives us 11 hours and 9 minutes of daylight. That’s one hour and one minute more than our last observation. Today’s temperature is 44 degrees F and feels like 39 degrees. There are 9 mph winds. We have had rain in the past few weeks. We noticed that the grass is greener than the last time we observed and it is softer. We saw animal tracks, possibly dog. We saw 2 vultures. We saw small buds on several trees/bushes: dogwood, beech, hearts-a-bursting. The beech trees still have their leaves, but the leaves are no longer fuzzy on the bottom. The tulip poplar had huge buds way up high in the tops of the branches. The partridgeberry had red berries. We noticed that the club moss and the resurrection fern did not freeze.
