Loon (FIRST sighted)

Date: 02/06/2009

Number: 1

Behind Indian River Inlet is the North Marina, providing 275 docks for ocean going fishing vessels. In the winter when the docks are empty, the marina provides deep water for divers. Solitary loons patrol the basin, both the inland COMMON LOON and its smaller cousin, the oceanic RED-THROATED LOON. Even in winter, on a still evening you can hear the loon's haunting call.
