While outside for recess today (we have been inside most days since Christmas vacation due to weather conditions) it was discovered that several of our tulips had emerged. 60+ kindergarten children went crazy! They were so excited. We grabbed cameras and took pictures, we wrote to our pen pals at another elementary school, we wrote another page in our class journal, and we wrote a sentence strip and made an illustration for our "hallway tulip news". What a teachable moment!
The few tulips that emerged are up about 1 inch and are reddish in color. As one student said, "...as red as an apple." Several of our experimental bulbs have also emerged - ones that were planted right next to the building. I know that the garden will be checked daily by many "little scientists".
