Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 02/27/2009

Number: 1

Today was a warm day, so I drove around the townships south of the mohawk valley (herkimer county) to see what birds I could find this morning. I hit jackpot near Newville on Lower paradise. I found a flock of redwing blackbirds and heard some doing the conkalee song in the warm sun. That wasn't all, there were robins, bluejays, cardinals, a red tailed hawk, crows, and sparrows accompaying them. The snow has melted leaving some of the fields bare in that area. I found that a lot of crows are flying around foraging on the bare farm fields. North of the valley appears to be more snow covered. some of the birds like starlings, bluejays, and robins are hanging around sumac
