Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 03/01/2009

Number: 1

Suburban yard, Arlington, TX. March 1, 2009 north wind, 36 degrees at 10 am to 52 degrees, humidity 33% down to 21% at 5 pm. Extremely dry, 3 weeks with no rain.

Throughout the day, 10 am to 5 pm large numbers of robins came and vigorously bathed and drank from waterfall and stream in yard, despite the chill and wind. A few cedar waxwings tried to get in, but gave up as did a yellow-rumped warbler. The robins were very numerous and very active. Easily could count 50 on ground, in water, up in trees at any one time. I suppose there were waves of them, but cannot verify that. They were also also eating cherry laurel's dark berries. Over the years (30) we have had this type invasion in mid-late Jan. and Feb., although not every year. This year a bit late.
