Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/08/2009

Number: 1

I heard my first red-wing this morning at 7:30 when I was on my way out to get the maple sap spiles ready - we tapped the sugar bush sunday morning. the red-wing was singing from the big pond- a true sign that spring is coming back. the snow is almost all gone from the fields and there is lots of melt water on top of the pond. a pair of canada geese were flying around checking out nesting spots. the weather was very warm yesterday and the sun is just peaking over the horizon today- it feels like spring!
