Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/07/2009

Number: 1

Saw about twenty female Red-winged Blackbirds roosting very high up in the treetops when we came to an overlook along the stream valley trail we'd been hiking on. They were easily identifiable through our binoculars, where they looked akin to large 'chocolate sparrows' (my way of remembering what they are). Strangely, could not locate any males in the swampier section.
