While I was out driving around for the first time in three months after my surgery, I passed by two monarchs. They were about a quarter mile apart on the north side of Port Lavaca, flying hard between the N and NE towards the causeway across Lavaca Bay. I take these to be the first remigrants I've seen this spring. After four days where the temp had stayed between 45 and 50 with fog, drizzle, and some rain, today was bright, clear and sunny with the temp getting to 75 dF at three when I saw these monarchs. We finally got some rain, almost an inch and a quarter over the four days, some locations to the north getting two to four inches. Smudged the drought.
