Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/18/2009

Number: 1

Saw my first monarch this afternoon in a dry creek bed just west of Marble Falls and down the Colorado River a bit, bit was too far away to see if it was a male or a female. Haven't seen a sprig of milkweed yet but hopefully some will appear soon since there was some rain last week. The bluebonnets are barely making their appearance in a few places. Usually my monarch spotting & collecting for my classroom coincides with the bluebonnets showing up around here.

My potted milkweed plants are doing well at home in San Antonio and I've been keeping watch for passers-by and eggs, but as of last week, I hadn't noticed a single one yet. SOON, I hope!
