Our fourth grade class at East End Elementary School went outside on March 18th to make observations of how spring is coming. It was 62 degrees F and felt warm with a cool breeze. We noticed lillies were sprouting about 3 inches above the ground. Hollies were beginning to grow flower buds. Trees are slowly beginning to bud and grow leaves. The grass is dry brown and not fresh yet. The tips of bushes are starting to grow leaves. The Evergreen trees are still the only trees we saw that were full and green.
Many of us are able to hear the chirping of birds more often in the morning. Daylight is lasting longer. Soon daylight and night will be equal. Some students saw geese flying in a v formation. Tomorrow is the spring equinox. We are looking forward to spring and the return of the Monarch Butterflies!
