Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/26/2009

Number: 1

What a joy it is today to see a pair of teeny tiny monarch butterfly caterpillars nestled in the flower buds of a milkweed plant - the first larva I have seen this year. I think they may be a day old, judging by their size. That means that they had to weather a terrific storm we had last evening with 60 mph winds and pounding rain (4 trees were down in our neighborhood). We had more rain this morning, but sunny now and 68 degrees F. They seem very content and munching away.
