We arrived home from a wedding-a terrible storm had passed through-we had tornadic winds and around 3 inches of rain. Upon entering our drive way, we saw a loon sitting in our driveway (although we didn't know what type of bird it was then). We could tell it couldn't move-I thought it was an injured goose. We tried to get close to it but it was scared and began wailing and we weren't sure what to do. I called my veterinarian as he knows a lot about wild birds and he came over to help. He immediately identifed it as a loon. He had relocated one before around 10 years ago. We have a small lake ajacent to our home-he picked up the loon-other than a small wound from where it crashed landed, it was OK-and carried it to our lake. It immediately began swimming and has made itself at home. I checked on it this morning and it is happily swimming and diving for fish. What an amazing bird! I am happy we were able to save it!
