We witnessed Painted Ladies flying north from the direction of the Bishop Ranch Open Space north all day, moving on the heavy winds we've been having. They flew in groups of 3 - 7 over our front yard, some pausing momentarily on the perennials, then over and around our house into the back yard where they flew about 3 - 5 feet off the lawn into the open space behind our house. A magnificent spectacle to behold! And today, 3/30/09, they're back.
