All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 03/30/2009

Number: 1

I saw a great number of Painted Lady butterflies flying north on March 30, 2009 early afternoon at noon and late afternoon after 4:30 pm. I was not home earlier in the day to notice earlier activity. I noticed only one butterfly landing on a plant and staying there for about 15 minutes or more. The others, I would say at least a 100 if not more just kept flying across my roof heading north. The one on the plant finally got with the program and flew north as well with the others.

I had heard they were flying about in Walnut Creek, CA on March 29, 2009 and that is roughly 9 miles away from where I live. They may have been flying yesterday here as well, but I did not notice them as I did today because there were so many.
