Eagle sightings and identification at Lake Simond for the Spring season 2009 were down a bit over the past three years during the three months of attracting the birds with roadkill venison. The cause was obvious and unavoidable: our neighbor has a beagle-mix which he obtained through marriage to his new wife. The consurn beast is a non-stop barker and is frequently tied out on the deck of his home next door. The eagles have been roosting in the pines and mature birches surrounding the carcasses, but are wan to fly down with the dog barking her lungs out at all hours of the day and night. Nevertheless, we did have at least sixteen different birds come in to the bait with six banded birds identified on the ice. Immatures and subadults predominated this year, all unbanded, six individuals recognized repeatedly. "Big Mama", our huge female who monopolizes the feeding was our most frequent visitor, a regular from January 15th to only yesterday. Three unbanded matures made for interesti
