All Other Signs of Spring

I saw an immature yellow bellied sapsucker today. It is not yet in it's adult plumage, so must be a young bird. After it left my ornamental pear tree it was pecking on, I went out for a look. I found freshly removed bark and small holes in the tree trunk.

Since ruby throat hummers follow the sapsucker migration closely to feed off the sap flows they cause before flowers are in bloom, the little jewels may be here soon. Hopefully the temperatures here in northern Illinois will continue to warm for their arrival. My feeder is up in anticipation!!!
