Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/31/2009

Number: 1

At about 2:00 p.m., a monarch butterfly was flying about 7-8 feet above ground along the west side of I-30 (mile marker 75) in a northerly direction. A second butterfly was spotted about 5 miles south above the southbound lane, also headed north and at about 7-8 feet above ground.

There was rain this morning, but the weather at the time of observation was sunny and clear. There was a strong wind from the south, which the butterflies seemed to be riding.
