Nevertheless, we did have at least sixteen different birds come in to the bait with six banded birds identified on the ice. I could have identified other birds, but it is nearly impossible to get the id's from perched banded birds.
Immatures and subadults predominated this year, all unbanded, six individuals recognized repeatedly. "Big Mama", our huge adult female (?) who monopolizes the feeding, was our most frequent visitor, a regular from January 15th to only yesterday. Three other unbanded matures made for interesting viewing, sharing the food nicely with F-29, a suspected mature male who was our other regular visitor since January.
The remaining banded birds were as follows: V-21 early February; F-29 January thru March; W-22 immature mid-February; N-56 early March to date; R-99, a new visitor seen only once on March 22nd; and another newcomer, X-53 only seen on March 25th. All banded birds were New York blue with Federal silver.
