"CLEAR LAKE - One of North Iowa's annual signs of spring is here.
Clear Lake city water Superintendent Bob Powell declared Clear Lake officially iced-out Tuesday. The lake is said to be iced-out when a boat can run along the entire shoreline of the lake.
The city has tracked ice-in and ice-out dates since 1936. However, ice-out dates alone were kept from 1928 to 1935.
This year's ice-out date is early by historical standards. The earliest ice-out recorded was March 5, 1931. The latest ice-out was April 28, 1951.
The lake was officially iced-in on Nov. 21. Last year's ice-out date was April 14."
