During the morning when I was driving on the freeway, I noticed a whole bunch of "flying insects" which I thought were moths. They were by the hundreds, flying out of brushes and along the freeways. In the evening when I went for my usual jog, I realized these aren't just any old insects, they are Painted Lady Butterflies! There were so many of them, by the thousands, all flying in the northerly direction. They seemed to stay fairly close to ground, no more than 10 feet up in the air. Since my jogging path also headed north, I ended up running along side them for quite a way. How wonderful and magnificent! It made my job feel much more pleasant. Anyway, this phenomenon went on for about a week, and now they all seem to have disappeared. I got to wait for their return next year I guess.
