This morning I saw a monarch laying eggs on our milkweed plant by our front door. The butterfly was pale and seemed tired. It's the same plant they come to twice a year, and I have previously raised monarchs from the catepillars and released them. Two days ago I spotted another monarch flying around our yard, but it didn't stop. It was the first one I saw this year.
Our home is located in SW Pensacola, a few miles from the Gulf.
Questions: How did the monarch know the plant was there? It is still quite small, after the winter. Could this be one of the ones I released last fall?
