"Ice-Out Declared!!"on Merrymeeting Lake
"By the rules established earlier, ice-out is declared on Merrymeeting Lake as of 4:56 PM, April 7, 2009.
I assume that the easterly winds had pushed much of any remaining ice to the east end of the lake, and some of the coves still were covered, but the MMLA ice-out indicator floated out of view just before 5 yesterday. I'd like to be able to say that with some ice remaining in view, ice out was delayed (since your webmaster had guessed April 8th!). But it's gone now.
At 4:36, it could still be seen. By 4:46 the ice pack had shifted significantly but it might still be in view. By 4:56 it is clearly out of sight."
