Oseetah Lake in Saranac Lake

"There may be snow in the sky and below-freezing temperatures overnight, but according to the telltale Adirondack chair now sitting at the bottom of Pontiac Bay, spring has arrived.

The Great Spring Ice Out, sponsored by the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, ended at 9:37 a.m. on Friday, April 3. The winner, Linda Gertsch, of Saranac Lake, was only five minutes off with a guess of 9:32 a.m.

The chair was placed just off the docks of the Adirondack Motel with a clock attached. When the chair fell in the water, the clock stopped - recording the exact time of the sinking."
"Last year, the chair broke through the ice on April 16, nearly two weeks later than this year. "
