We are finally hearing songs from robins who are now showing up all around Juneau. Another species - the related varied thrush, is also starting to give it's ring-like song. (Some people think it sounds like a telephone ring.)
We still have lots of snow (3 - 5')in colder places, but there is bare ground right along the coast and on southern exposure hillsides. Temperatures are near or at freezing at night but in the mid- to high 40's during the day. One sunny spot recorded 51 yesterday - a hot spot for Juneau!
