Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/15/2009

Number: 1

We have a few mature larvae and one in the J position as of this morning. The number of monarchs laying eggs at Choctaw Trails has been much higher than usual and the eggs are super abundant in the fields for the 3rd consecutive week since the first were noted on 24 March. Last Saturday (April 11) we held a "Monarch Rescue" at this site and around 300 adults and children came to collect milkweed, eggs and small larvae to rear and release. The site will be mowed soon and has a healthy fire ant population.
