Tulips BLOOMED

Date: 04/16/2009

Number: 1

One of our tulips is blooming! It is the lone spot of red in an area of green. The first grade classes are going out to visit it after recess. They hope more will be blooming soon. Our second bed of tulips is just emerging now. We are talking about why one area is so much earlier than the other. There are many ideas. We had a lot of snow this year in Madison, Wisconsin and we think maybe the piles of snow stayed in that area longer. It is also further away from the building, so maybe it is not as warm as the spot closer to the building. We had to put some salt on the sidewalk so people didn't fall, so maybe that affected the plants. Some of the poor tulips were scraped up with the snow removal this winter, the squirrels must have had a snack! It is going to be in high 60's today so it really feels like spring!
