While stopped at a stoplight while running errands this afternoon
(4/21/09) I saw my first Monarch of the season, gliding across the road with wings in a "V" pattern to a colorful garden!
Note that one of several ways of distinguishing Monarchs from Viceroys includes flight behavior. Monarch glide with wings held up at angles in a "V" (like a Turkey Vulture), while Viceroys glide on "flat" wings.
