Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/21/2009

Number: 1

A hummer was obsefved at our front yard feeder at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, April 21; this bird was quite small and lacking in color as much of the ruby's are later in the summer, displaying feathers of a variety of browns. On the following day, we observed a hummer at our rear yard feeder. It appeared repeatedly during the late afternoon until we retired into our home near sunset. This or these hummers appeared much the same as the ruby we had seen the previous day, very much unlike the plump and colorful birds that migrated to the south in the fall last year. They lingered at the feeder for only about 10 seconds each visit.
