Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/24/2009

Number: 1

We have seen our first Monarch's this week, with the first one being on the 24th. We are up to four now! When we moved here 2 years ago, there wasn't a single one to be found on our property. I brought milkweed with us when we moved, and last year we saw one Monarch toward the end of the year. We are so excited to have seen four of them now this spring! I am checking for eggs daily! Our milkweed has spread, and we planted seeds this year as well that we received from the education center at the forest service. Some of the milkweed is only an inch high, but some of it is up to 9 inches. I hope that this is the beginning of an abundance of Monarchs in our area. The girls are so excited. They tell me they saw a Monarch last weekend, but as I wasn't home to see it, I can't make an "official" sighting. While they are only 6 and 8, they do know what they look like!
