Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/26/2009

Number: 1

This afternoon at 1:02PM, Sunday, April 26, 2009, I had my first visitor of the 2009 Hummingbird Season. It was a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird who was fly-feeding from my feeder which is under the eave of the house infront of the sliding door. He was mostly hidden on the far side of the feeder but I could see his red gorget enlarged through the magnifying lens effect of the bottom portion of the bottle. I could also see the forked wedge of his dark tail flicking below the bottom edge of feeder's base. He returned at 1:05PM only to be chased off by a House Sparrow.
