Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/29/2009

Number: 1

A male came the window feeder at 6:17 PM. He is little and thin. Last year I spotted the first one on 4/21 - so they are late. The trees just started to get green here - inland has more foliage - so I think the delay was because there wasn't enough cover here yet. I suspect he was here last year because he came into the window feeder without any hestiation even with my standing on the other side of the window. The "new" hummers, hestiate a little before coming to the window feeder - which is why I think he was here last year. He flitted into the fuschias briefly - I finally found some for sale yesterday. Drank for at least a minute. He came back about 15 minutes later and visited another window feeder. He returned again about a half an hour later. YEAH - it is really Spring now !
