Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/29/2009

Number: 1

1st Generation Monarch chrysalis in Oklahoma! Five more sometime soon. These were brought in on swamp milkweed before the hard freeze the end of March. It's taken them a lil longer to mature in the garage due to the cooler temps that we had. Was quite a challenge finding food for them. They promptly ate all of the swamp, then what tropical that I had, then I found some tropical that had been sprayed, and then was lucky enough to find some good trop. The showy was VERY SLOW to grow due to the cooler temps, but is coming leaps and bounds now. I am finding several 2-3 instars on it, now.

Native mw in the ditches and pastures is either just starting to come up, or blooming!
