Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/05/2009

Number: 1

Spotted a small hummer yesterday, but I hadn't put out the feeders, on my patio at that time. I hurriedly went and made the sugar and water food, let it cool and then in newly cleaned feeders put them out on the patio. Did not see him again that day, but I found out that a neighbor had hers outside on her patio in our building. That was good as it was rather cool out there. He needed that food.

Today, I saw it at one of the feeders and am so happy to see him. It is rather cool and very rainy today. I do have a few plants hung and saw him sitting on one that has a few branches stuck in them. So tiny and beautiful. He has been outside feeding a number of times and I hope all goes well for him. At least I know the hummers are in the area and will be flitting around now. A wonderful site to see. I do hope that with all the devastation from the bad ice storm we had in December they will find good spots to nest. We lost a lot of the trees that I use to see them go into.
