Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/30/2009

Number: 1

On April 24, 2009, we placed our first feeder in the very same location as we have for the past eight years. Within the week, 05/01/09, we caught a glimpse of a beautiful male as he was inspecting the feeder. At dusk we filled five more feeders due to the lack of natural nectar, and hung the oriole feeder and placed fresh oranges out as well. Sunday morning, 05/02/09, the the male hummingbird started feeding on the original feeder and left...so we thought. The male oriole made his appearance at the hummer's feeder and within seconds that little male hummer chased him away. I believe we just might have our first resident hummer for 2009 season. How exciting!
