Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/09/2009

Number: 1

One of our second graders reported seeing (and catching!) a monarch near some milkweed in his backyard.

Yes, I can 100% guarantee it was a monarch.
Both my husband and I saw it on that day, along with our first hummingbird. We are avid butterfly watchers and are very familiar with many of the types. We have several butterfly and moth identification guides. In fact, we raise yearly Painted Ladies (purchased larvae) and Monarchs (found caterpillars). We have a special garden here where we grow milkweed for the monarchs. We just found some eggs yesterday (5/27/09)
