On May 22nd the first Monarch for the spring in New Brunswick, Canada was seen on Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy (latitude about 45 degrees north) by a group of birders enjoying the spring migration. This is later by just two days than our earliest record (May 20) established in 2006 and also on Grand Manan.
Temperatures in recent days in the southern part of the province soared to +34 degrees C (93 degrees F) and many bird migrants have appeared early, as they have in Ontario, so early Monarchs have been anticipated.
