Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/25/2009

Number: 1

My husband & I were out on one of the tallgrass prairies at Walpole Island First Nation and sighted our first Monarch. This particular prairie is abundant with common milkweed along the edge and it is at about 2 feet high. The male Monarch was pristine. Coordinates: 42 33 14 N, 082 29 27 W or as the Monarch flies; WIFN is located at the NW corner of Lake St Clair, ~60 miles NW of Detroit, MI in the Province of Ontario. I am certain that had we had an opportunity to make it over to this part of Walpole Island, sooner, we would have seen Monarchs earlier in May.
