Thought you might want to know that today the first chrysalis occurred with the caterpillars that stayed on the plant (except I brought it in 2 days ago, so I wouldn't loose it.) Not sure where the other smaller caterpillars went...seemed to disappear. These hatched out on the 12th of May....(14 days)
The 2 I brought in on the 5/3 hatched out 5/6 went into a chrysalis on 5/20
the 14 brought in 5/6 hatched out on 5/9-13 went into the chrysalis on 5/23
It was interesting to see how different the sizes of caterpillars grew even though they hatched out at the same time...guess that is how the milkweed could survive...
By the way, the milkweed is up about 2-3 feet now and actually seeing the starts of blossoms...this year I will cut down more and get the fresh leaves for the monarch to lay her eggs when they re sprout...no fresh ones seen yet, but I expect to see some in a few weeks from the ones I couldn't find or ones finally moving up.
