I was not able to tell if it was a male or female but it was definately interested in plants to lay eggs on versus nectar plants so I think it may have been a female. The last Monarch seen at this location was hand-raised, tagged and released here on 10-16-08. Common Milkweed plants here are 2 feet tall, Swamp Milkweed is 10 inches tall and Butterfly Weed is 1 foot tall.
