The "whirlygigs" from our maple trees were falling all around me as I prepared to mow the lawn between rain showers. I saw a different movement out of the corner of my eye. When I shifted my attention, I saw a monarch settling on a shoot of grass. I noticed a notch on one of the wings and wondered if this would hamper its flight and I was relieved when it flittered away.
