Sighting was in Canaan Valley. Canaan Valley is the largest high mountain valley east of the rockies. Elevation of sighting was approx. 3400 ft. Canaan Valley is noted for its "Canada like" weather having cool summers and snowy / cold winters. I live in Canaan Valley West Virginia. Canaan Valley is the highest significant mountain valley east of the Rockies. The elevation of the valley floor is 3200 ft. The milkweed plants are about 18 inches tall. Did they bypass this region on their trip north? (Monarchs arrived at this latitude over a month ago, in mid-late late April.)
