I saw my first monarch in Maryland on 495W today. I was in a traffic jam. Very good to see that the mowing practices of states due to the economy is causing the common milkweed to flourish along the roadways.
I looked over at a bunch of milkweed in bloom and saw a monarch nectaring. I visited North Bridge, NJ this weekend. I didn't see any monarchs there. The place I visited was way too manicured. I did see a private beach house with some common milkweed in the front yard. I figure no one lets that grow unless they know exactly what it is.
Even in NJ, MD, and Virginia common milkweed is growing happily along the byways.
