Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/23/2009

Number: 1

I was weeding in our butterfly garden at our school and I saw a large caterpillar on the milkweed there. It was a 5th instar I am sure. I checked other plants, but didn't see any others. As I was working, a female butterfly flew over to the milkweed. I tried to be really still so I could see her lay some eggs, but she didn't stick around. It was a sunny still day. That was my first for this year.
